The Production Oracle

Strategy, media, and the creator economy... without the pipe dreams.

Every week, I follow a thread through media, business, technology, AI, and the creator economy until I figure out what I think is actually going on.

Sometimes it starts with an industry headline. Sometimes it's something a founder says while sitting across from me at Sasquatch Media Grounds. Sometimes it's a pattern I've been side-eyeing for six months. Occasionally Pedro Pascal gets involved.

The Production Oracle is where I work it out.

Not more content for content's sake. I'm interested in how creative work builds businesses, how technology changes the games we're playing, and what becomes more valuable when making generic stuff gets easier by the day.

The archive is where the ideas live. The newsletter is where they show up first.

Every week, I'll send you what I'm noticing about media, business, technology, AI, and the creator economy... including the patterns I don't think we're paying enough attention to yet.

Pick a rabbit hole.

I've been publishing The Production Oracle weekly since March 2025, which means the archive has accidentally become a running record of how I've been thinking about media, technology, business, visibility, and the creator economy while all of those things are changing underneath us.

Some ideas showed up once. Others kept coming back until they became frameworks, talks, services, or in one particularly expensive case, an actual production studio.

AI & Human Creativity

What happens to creative work when machines can make more stuff than anyone could possibly consume? AI literacy, authenticity, bias, taste, original human source material, and why “AI can do it” is usually the beginning of the question rather than the end of it.

Creator Economy

Creators aren't the same thing as influencers, followers aren't a business model, and the creator economy isn't waiting for anyone to decide whether it's a “real” industry. This is where I write about how the market is changing, who's actually making money, and what creators and businesses should learn from it.

Media & Production

Good media doesn't begin when somebody hits record. Story, pre-production, production value, infrastructure, editorial judgment, and the increasingly important difference between making more content and making media that actually has a job to do.

Visibility & Positioning

Being visible isn't the same thing as being famous, and being known by everybody isn't particularly useful if the right people don't know why they should care. Positioning, reputation, discoverability, specificity, audience, and the ongoing campaign against beige content.

Money & Business Models

The creator economy contains a truly astonishing amount of money. That does not mean you need millions of followers to get some of it. Pricing, monetization, media as an asset, sustainable revenue, and building a business that works outside the fantasy economics of internet fame.

Values & Leadership

Your values aren't the paragraph you put on your About page. They're visible in what you make, who you work with, what you tolerate, what you say out loud, and what you're willing to lose by saying it. Leadership, boundaries, power, responsibility, and what happens when clarity creates friction.

Systems & Sustainability

The breakthrough is very frequently hiding inside something boring. Systems, infrastructure, consistency, resilience, capacity, and the unsexy decisions that make creative businesses capable of surviving long enough to become interesting.
